For many of the children we work with in India, the essentials needed for learning – pencils, notebooks and a schoolbag – are out of reach. And, with every day a struggle for survival, school can feel irrelevant. Â
Trapped outside of the school system by poverty, children are at risk of spending their days on the streets and at train stations where they are vulnerable to violence, gangs and exploitation. Others are pushed into child labour, child marriage and child trafficking. Education provides a child’s best chance of escaping the poverty that defines their life and building a brighter future.
